Fitness Tips - Chinese New Year Health Watch

With Chinese New Year just round the corner, there's the temptation to gorge yourself on all those delicious Chinese New Year goodies. Here at Personal Defence Academy, we've devised 3 simple ways to watch your health.

#1 - Eat something light before house visiting
If you have a lot of house visiting to do, it's a good idea to eat something light and healthy beforehand, so that you don't appear at a relative's house hungry and starved for food. This will keep you appetite down and less likely overeat on snacks and goodies. Saving your stomach for a large meal is a surefire way to bloat that waistline!

#2 - Learn to say no politely
Often, we'll have all sorts of food and goodies thrust in our face during the visiting period. Learning how to say no is a definite must! There's no harm in politely rejecting by saying that you've already eaten, or better yet, that you're keeping a healthy regime, and steer the topic in that direction instead. If you find yourself really hard-pressed to say no, then nibble in small amounts and no more.

#3 - Drink lots of water
For those of us who have blessed genes and can afford to eat without worrying too much about our waistlines, lucky you! But don't forget to drink lots and lots of water! New year goodies tend to be dry and dehydrating, and are often accompanied by sweet drinks which do not help to rehydrate the body. If you don't want to lose your voice and fall sick during the festive period, be sure to drink copious amounts of water.
